Above the Storm

There’s a place beyond the chaos —
not far away, not unreachable,
but easily forgotten when the winds pick up.

In early recovery, everything feels like weather.
One moment you’re clear and steady.
The next — you’re caught in a downpour of doubt,
grief hits sideways,
cravings flash like lightning,
and shame rolls in heavy like thunderclouds.

But the storm is not all there is.
And it never was.

Above the storm, the sky is still blue.
It has always been blue.
You just couldn’t see it.

This isn’t about denying the storm —
it’s about rising above it.

Mindfulness is your wings.
Connection is your updraft.
Faith — in yourself, in something greater —
that’s your steady horizon.

Up there, you’re not untouchable.
You still feel pain.
But you no longer drown in it.
You observe. You breathe. You choose.

You learn that feelings are weather,
but you are the sky.

And when the clouds part — even for a moment —
you remember who you are underneath it all.

Not broken.
Not lost.
But whole.
Expansive.
Capable of holding storms without becoming one.

So today, when the sky darkens,
don’t panic.
Don’t fight the rain.
Just climb.

Above the storm is clarity.
Above the storm is you.
